Overview

BASTA Restaurant in Thousand Oaks offers an authentic slice of Italy right in the heart of California’s Conejo Valley. This Italian eatery, located conveniently on East Thousand Oaks Boulevard, specializes in classic dishes that showcase the rich, comforting flavors of traditional Italian cuisine.

The menu highlights are anchored by standout items such as their robust Spaghetti Carbonara, perfectly balanced with creamy sauce and pancetta, and a range of exceptional pizzas. The Margherita “Classica” Pizza emerges as a crowd favorite, with an authentic tomato sauce that delivers a fresh, vibrant taste, praised by regulars as a must-try. The Meat Pizza also holds its own, combining savory toppings with a deliciously crisp crust, all baked to perfection in a lively, inviting setting.

Beyond food, Basta’s beverage selection caters to those with refined tastes. The curated Scotch list, featuring names like The Glenlivet 12 Year, Lagavulin 16 Year, and Johnnie Walker Blue Label, offers wonderful pairings to complement the meal. For those preferring sparkling options, Ds Prosecco Brut and Veuve Clicquot Champagne bring an elegant touch to the dining experience, while a light, well-priced Rosé captivates fans of rosato wines.

The atmosphere at Basta encourages conviviality with a bustling, energetic vibe that suits groups and casual dinners alike. It’s a place where the lively crowd and attentive service merge seamlessly. Valet and street parking provide convenience despite the restaurant’s popularity, though guests should anticipate wait times, especially on weekends, as the establishment does not take reservations. Those waiting can easily enjoy a craft brew across the street at Tarantula Brewing Co., making the pre-dinner pause a pleasant one.

Basta’s target audience ranges from families and friends seeking hearty Italian fare to professionals and food enthusiasts looking for a genuine and satisfying dining experience. The space’s casual yet vibrant environment appeals to those appreciative of authentic cooking and quality ingredients without the pretense.

Customer feedback often highlights the consistently great service and flavorful dishes, though some note variations in certain items like the seafood-spaghetti or dessert offerings compared to the Agoura location. Nevertheless, signature dishes like the meatballs, tagliatelle al ragu, and the gluten-free carrot cake maintain high praise and highlight the kitchen’s dedication to quality and taste. The espresso, Salami selections, and appetizers also offer light, tasty starters that round out the meal nicely.

Overall, BASTA Restaurant - Thousand Oaks represents a dependable destination for Italian comfort food with a modern twist, balanced drinks, and a warm, lively atmosphere. Whether it’s a bustling weekend dinner or a relaxed weekday visit at the bar, this location invites guests to enjoy robust flavors and spirited hospitality in a well-crafted environment.

For a guaranteed great experience, try their Margherita “Classica” Pizza or any other pizza on the menu. They’re made to perfection, and the authentic sauce is the key to its delicious flavor. The hummus is also very tasty, as is the spaghetti with meat sauce!

Decided to try out the Thousand Oaks location with some friends on a Saturday evening and overall it was a pleasant experience, however, it seemed to be slightly lacking compared to previous experiences at the Agoura location. We arrived at 6pm to put our names in and there was already about an hour wait which was somewhat expected as they don't take reservations. Tarantula Brewing Co. is conveniently located across the street if you wanted to wait things out over a cold brew (recommend). There is valet parking, however, there is plenty of street parking and depending on how busy it is you may just have to walk a little bit. The service has always been great whenever I dine at Basta and this occasion was no different. Very attentive server and once seated we had drinks order and bread on the table. We shared a handful of things on this occasion...Basta Meatballs, Spaghettini Vongole, Tagliatelle Al Ragu & the Caprese Pizza. All were very good though the Vongole was not as good as past times and the Caprese pizza wasn't quite what we expected (cold toppings on hot pizza). The Meatball and Ragu was delicious! We finished things off with the Tirmisu (good but not my fave and have had much better) and the gluten-free carrot cake which was easily the favorite on the table. It's usually always busy inside the restaurant, so the atmosphere is lively, however, it's definitely not the place to go for a quiet evening out if that's what you're after.

Great food, great service, liked the vibe. We got especial appetizers three slides was really light and testy and had a pasta with vodka sauce, different and delicious. Tiramisu was good too. The price was really fair too. The only thing, no reservations and you need to wait for almost half an hour.

The interior design of the restaurant was so nice to look up at when you weren't diving into the authentic yet approachable food. The service was excellent as they accommodated my party of 7 including setting up a table for the younger kids next to ours and serving them as they were paying customers. The wait staff was polite, knowledgeable and efficient. We're excited to come back and try more menu items.

This was a recommendation from a friend, really good pasta, really good specials. The steaks looked great as they were being wheeled by. We got the special gnocchi and another plate of pasta which was very fresh. The butter cake was very good with the fresh vanilla ice cream. Our server was fantastic.

Reason for visiting: brother's birthday dinner Date/time of visit: Saturday night, ~6:00 PM Parking: Street parking, free. they offer valet too but there's plenty of parking. Not sure how much valet was. There's parking across the street for Tarantula Brewery; pretty sure you can park there and no one would know. Party size: 5 Environment/ambience: busy; there's no reservations so you have to come in person. This Basta just recently opened (there's another one in Agoura Hills) so assume it's a little easier to get in here. 5 min wait but we came early.. around 5:45 - 6:00 PM. The Agoura location is usually an hour+ wait. It was ok at the start but got really stuffy and hot at the end. Restrooms are clean. Pretty busy overall. Small bar area with the NBA playoffs on. Indoor and outdoor seating. Service: was great. He provided the specials, etc and recommended what we should order. Came around pretty often and refilled water (water was sooo good for some reason ). No complementary dessert for 50th birthday! Food: had the complimentary bread + vinegar and balsamic, Tagliatelle al Ragu, Fiorentine, Burrata + Beets, El Volti wine, Gnocchi, Salsiccia e Funghi Pizza, and the desserts, Lava Cake and Butter cake. Everything was good. Cost: $450 with tip Would I go back (yes/no): 70/30
